CML: There is no quick fix for housing market

A greater number of individuals may require residential property conveyancing services in the future if the housing market takes a turn for the better. Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) director general Michael Coogan spoke after a discussion with housing minister Grant Shapps, when participants considered the position of first-time buyers in today's market. And he said he was pleased to see representatives looking at ways to improve the conditions, which will hopefully lead to market recovery. "But no-one will be surprised to learn that there is no simple quick fix for a market that has changed fundamentally since the credit crunch," Mr Coogan noted. Despite this, a number of people plan to make a purchase this year, with figures from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks recently revealing some 30 per cent of people in the UK are looking to move home in 2011. This is more than three times higher than the level stood at the height of the economic downturn. Posted by Gaby Hamerton
