Mediation services 'can play key role in prenups'

Family law, mediation and relationships have been the subject of much recent debate, with the Law Commission launching a review of pre-nuptial agreements.
It is considering whether such arrangements should carry the full force of the law or be treated on a case by case basis as they are now.
Suzy Miller, creator of the Starting Over Show, which helps couples move on after divorce, notes that mediation services can form a central role in the drawing up of marital arrangements.
Speaking on the Guardian Focus podcast, she explained: "Mediation as a process has a really strong role to play in the creation of pre-nups and with independent legal advice to finish it off and make it solid."
A pre-nuptial agreement is also something that can be updated, in the same way that vows are, Ms Miller added.
She agreed that working out and signing pre-nups well in advance of the wedding is important to minimise stress and not to put women at a disadvantage.
