Union calls for greater equality in the workplace

A leading union is calling for a reform of employment and equality law to ensure fewer women need to look for an employment discrimination claim solicitor service. The GMB union says the Sky Sport sexual harassment case is "not isolated" and is calling on the government to put in place more legislation to support women at work. It wants women to receive equal pay and be able to access to family-friendly flexible working arrangements. The Fawcett Society, which campaigns for equality between men and women, says there is still a major problem with gender pay differences. Head of policy and campaigns at the society Anna Bird claims "urgent action" is needed to close the 15.5 per cent gap between men's and women's pay. She went on to explain that government cuts will hurt women most, and "may actually increase inequality". "Sixty-five per cent of the public sector workforce is female, so when the estimated half a million jobs that will be lost in this sector kick in, almost twice as many women as men will lose their jobs," Ms Bird explained.
