Personal insolvency warning as Brits fail to make ends meet

A stark personal insolvency warning has been issued after new research suggests that many people cannot make both ends meet. Close to a third (28 per cent) of struggling Brits are spending more money each month than they are earning, according to a survey from the housing charity Shelter. The expense of rent, mortgage payments, living costs and fuel bills means adults in the UK face an average shortfall of £165 a month. Seventy per cent of people are worried about cash flow, while 26 per cent are uncertain whether they can pay bills on time. Campbell Robb, chief executive of Shelter said: "It's shocking to see how many people simply don't have enough money to make ends meet and shows just how hard people are finding it in this tough economic climate." The report comes as the LSL Buy to Let Index reveals more people are failing to pay their rent. Posted by Gaby Hamerton
