OFT to probe Thomas Cook, Co-op Travel merger

The planned merger of Thomas Cook and Co-op Travel is to be investigated by the Office for Fair Trading (OFT).
In a case that could involve a mergers and acquisitions solicitor service, the OFT was handed the case after the European Commission decided it was beyond its own remit as it would only affect the UK.
Concerns over competition have been raised as the merger would create the largest high street travel business in the UK.
Thomas Cook said it will "continue to work closely with the OFT to obtain a rapid clearance".
The news comes as the OFT announces a change to in its Mergers Group, with its senior director of mergers Dr Amelia Fletcher stepping down after two years.
She is to be replaced with the current director of mergers Sheldon Mills.
Meanwhile, competition minister Edward Davey has announced the appointment of 14 new members to the Competition Appeal Tribunal.
