Payment limits to change next year, employers told

Employees will find the amount they are awarded in redundancy and unfair dismissal cases increases on February 1st 2011, the government has confirmed.
A review of the costs takes place on a yearly basis and changes in line with an index-linked formula, which employers need to be aware of to stay within the boundaries of the law.
The minimum amount to be awarded in basic compensation for an unfair dismissal case will increase from the current limit of £4,700 to £5,000 as of next year.
Furthermore, the limit on the amount of guarantee given to a worker in respect of any day will increase from £21.20 to £22.20 as of February.
Managers also need to be aware that the limit on the amount of compensation for unfair dismissal will increase from £65,300 to £68,400.
The Daily Telegraph recently published advice on what legal channels people should pursue when they are made redundant, such as by checking the terms of their contract.
