Company director jailed for fraud

A fraudulent company director has been jailed for "incomprehensible dishonesty" after leaving a string of businesses owing money. In a case that may affect some people seeking a commercial debt recovery solicitor, Richard Neil Grout, who had six known aliases, was sent to prison for six years for fraud, fraudulent trading, failing to cooperate with the Official Receiver, perjury and acting as a director while disqualified. He admitted setting up and running a number of businesses including UIC Limited, Concourse Property Limited, Woburn Property Limited and Equus Areans Limited in a manner that was dishonest and which put the company's creditors at risk. In addition, Huntingdon Crown Court heard how he continued to operate as a director despite his own personal insolvency, which disqualified from the position.
Stephen Speed, chief executive of the Insolvency Service, said: "Any company or individual who had the misfortune to do business with Mr Grout should be reassured by the sentence he received today."
Recently, company director Christopher Orchard was jailed for setting up a fake corporate insolvency business that claimed to chase debts on behalf of creditors.
