Acas warns over Christmas party behaviour

One of the country's leading mediation services is recommending that the same rules that operate in the office apply at the Christmas party.

In comments that could see workers think about an employment discrimination claim solicitor, conciliatory service Acas pointed out that employment and harassment laws are just as important at a staff party as in the workplace.

"Employers should have a quiet word with their staff before the party to alert them to the legal situation," a spokesman for the organisation said.

"Just mentioning it can be helpful. At a party, things may get said that wouldn't normally."

Recent research suggests that the office party becomes the focal point for behaviour that is normally kept under wraps the rest of the year.

According to the survey from Gaydar, one in three Brits would like to have sex with a colleague at the annual Christmas party, while for married people this figure is only slightly less at one in five.
