Pratt & Whitney seeks commercial dispute resolution with Rolls-Royce

US aircraft engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney has said it wants a resolution to its commercial dispute with Rolls-Royce, leaving the door open to mediation services.
The firm has filed simultaneous lawsuits in the UK and the US after alleging that the British engine maker stole its ideas.
A spokesperson for Pratt & Whitney indicated, however, that there is still room for manoeuvre: "We regret that these actions are necessary, and we continue to be willing to discuss a mutually acceptable resolution to this dispute with Rolls-Royce."
"Pratt & Whitney's case is very strong", continued the spokesperson, adding that it had been left with no option in light of Rolls-Royce's "aggression".
The suits relate to two of Rolls-Royce's newest engines, one of which blew up while operating on an Airbus A380 last week.
Litigation between the two rival firms has a long history. Rolls-Royce filed a patent infringement suit against Pratt & Whitney's parent company UTC in August of this year.
