Accountancy expert wins £1m divorce battle

An accountancy expert has won a divorce settlement against another private client, culminating in a £1 million payout reduction.
Maurice Hobson told the Court of Appeal that the £8 million fee requested by his ex-wife Chloe Ward was excessive, which led to a £1 million reduction.
However, judge of the case, Lord Justice Ward was not overly sympathetic towards Mr Hobson, who inherited an accountancy business from his father. Lord Justice Ward, spoke about Mr Hobson's lifestyle, saying: "A lump sum of £7 million represents one half of the carcass of the golden goose that exemplified their way of life."
This news comes after figures indicated that the number of online divorces in Britain increased by 34 per cent in 2010.
Divorce-Online revealed the figures, which show that the number of online divorces in 2010 so far has already exceeded the total from the entirety of 2009.
In addition, the organisation has affirmed its belief that web-based divorces are beneficial for people who desire a fast settlement.
