OFT drafts law guidance

Businesses have been warned to prepare for changes to land agreement legislation, that may require them to consult corporate legal services providers for further guidance.
Land agreements that "prevent, restrict or distort" competition will be invalid when a new ruling comes into effect on April 6th 2011 and the guidance provided by Office of Fair Trading (OFT) is engineered to assist companies with the legal adjustment.
Also, the draft guidance emphasises other points, including that the law will only apply to land agreements between businesses, rather than transactions that exclusively involve individuals.
OFT senior director for policy Cavendish Elithorn said: "This guidance is designed to reassure companies when there is unlikely to be a problem and help them assess when they need to take professional advice."
In another corporate law development earlier this week, the Cabinet Office reached an agreement with employees in government departments and non-departmental public bodies to secure a new compensation plan for redundancies.
