Takeovers reach £13bn, figures show

Management buy-outs by private equity groups accounted for almost three-quarters of all UK mergers and acquisitions in the first sixth months of 2010, with deals reaching around £13 billion in value.
During the opening six months of the year, private equity buy-outs accounted for 73 per cent of all UK mergers and acquisitions, which was an increase from last year's 28 per cent figure.
Steve O'Hare, director at Barclays Private Equity in the North, said: "It is encouraging to see the exit market opening up, not just from financial buyers but with an increased appetite from trade buyers."
Meanwhile, Thomson Reuters last week announced that it has completed a management buy-out of the widely used matter management company Serengeti Law for an undisclosed fee.
The newly acquired firm will be partnered with the company's corporate, government and academic business unit within Thomson Reuters Legal, which is managed by president Mike Suchsland.
