AEA technology acquires Eastern Research Company

British energy and climate change consultancy AEA Technology has agreed to complete a management buy-out of Massachusetts environmental consulting firm Eastern Research Group for approximately $83 million (£52.5m).
The money is comprised from a combination of cash and shares and acts as the AEA Group's second purchase in the US, following the successful acquisition of Project Performance Corporation, which was completed in August 2008.
Dr Paul Golby, chairman of AEA, said: "This is a major step forward for the company, delivering on the strategy to develop client relationships with the US Federal Government, particularly targeting the DoE and the EPA."
AEA Technology has also emphasised how the acquisition will add significant expertise to the AEA Group in the water market, which will help to provide a full spectrum of services to customers.
Yesterday, British company Inmarsat discovered that it would not be subjected to a management buy-out, after US company Harbinger Capital Partners halved shares in the company, while announcing that a takeover bid would not be made.
