Most Equality Act provisions now in effect

The vast majority of provisions from the 2010 Equality Act take effect from today (October1st), which will be important for those seeking employment law advice.
This act brings together nine pieces of legislation under a single category, while any additional plans for the act will be announced by the government in due course.
It was women working at the Ford assembly plant in east London who helped to trigger the establishment of the 1970 Equal Pay Act. Home secretary and minister for women and equality Theresa May has thanked a film on the topic, "Made in Dagenham" for ensuring that "the workplace is much fairer".
She added: "From today the gagging clauses that stop people discussing their pay with their colleagues will be unenforceable, allowing women - and men - to find out if they're being paid unfairly."
Meanwhile, this week it was also announced that employers who deliberately flout minimum wage laws will be publicly named by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills from January 2011.
