Two fined after faulty fairground ride

In news that could interest people who are considering making a personal injury claim, two men have been fined by the Health and Safety Executive for allowing the public to use a faulty fairground ride.
Fairground ride owner Michael Searle, from South Ockendon in Essex and Michael Rodgers, of Pymm Leys Lane, Groby in Leicestershire have been fined £3,000 each after two members of the public were thrown from a ride that they authorised at Silverstone, Buckinghamshire.
Mr Searle pleaded guilty to breaching section 3(2) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and was forced to pay £1,000 in costs, while Mr Rodgers pleaded guilty to breaching section 3(1) of the same act and was commanded to pay £2,000 in costs.
HSE inspector Karl Howes said:"This incident should remind all ride operators and ride examiners that public safety on fairground rides is of paramount importance."
This comes after Preston engineering company Autoy Ltd was fined £17,500 by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) at Preston Crown Court last Friday, after 45-year-old Michael Loanza was discovered dead at the site on January 10th 2009.
