Justice minister emphasises importance of ABSs

Discussing corporate legal services at an event hosted by the Law Society last week, justice minister Jonathan Djanogly underlined his desire to see lawyers unite with other non-legal professionals to create one-stop shop firms and alternative business structures.
Currently, the legal profession is separate from others but Mr Djanogly supports the notion of lawyers corresponding with non-legal professionals such as accountants, creating an assortment of one-stop shop connected services.
Mr Djanogly said: "I believe that the changing legal landscape should lead to a reinvigorated and more competitive legal services sector."
He added that the initiation of ABS would enable "greater flexibility of professional services provision" and make companies less vulnerable to commercial pressures.
Earlier this month, Mr Djanogly also discussed mediation, saying that it was an underused option for dispute resolutions. He added that he wanted "to encourage people in disputes to play a greater role in resolving them themselves".
