Family contemplate legal action against memorial company

A family from Sherwood, Nottingham may pursue dispute resolution proceedings against a memorial firm they allege significantly impacted on their recovery from bereavement, after they were given a gravestone that did not match their expectations.
The gravestone was designed for Aneesah Shak, who died from a brain tumour aged nine and was purchased by her parents Jamie and Robina Shakh from Long Eaton, reports the Nottingham Post.
Carved In Stone memorials was paid a £1,500 deposit ahead of the gravestone's completion, yet construction had not even begun six months later and last week the firm's Sherwood showroom closed down.
Mr and Mrs Shakh have complained to Trading Standards and have described their frustration towards Carved In Stone, saying: "We were just getting back as a family and this has made it raw again."
Meanwhile, according to the UK Ministry of Justice, alternative dispute resolution cases were prominent in 2009, with 314 cases administered that saved full estimated costs of £90.2 million.
