Textile company fined after employee's arm is "crushed"

Peterborough-based textile company E-Leather Limited has been fined £13,500 after a worker's arm was crushed by their machinery.
The company could face further payouts if a personal injury claim is also made by the injured party.
Agency worker Robert Dunn, 32, of Ringwood, South Bretton, Peterborough, broke three arm bones and ripped cartilage in his knee when using a fabric winding machine on November 4th 2009, according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).
E-Leather Limited appeared at Peterborough Magistrates' Court yesterday, confessing to breaking two working laws - the Regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and Regulation 3(1)(b) of the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
This will underline the importance of employers throughout the UK ensuring they are compliant with health and safety regulations at work.
As well as the £13,500 fine, E-Leather Limited, based at the Kingsbridge Centre, Sturrock Way, Peterborough, was ordered to pay £5,000 in costs.
This incident has transpired only nine days after the HSE reported that Darlington firm Intercity Glazing Systems Ltd was prosecuted for health and safety offences.
