Theft affects one in eight students yearly

Students have been urged to secure insurance policies, after research revealed that one in eight students are victims of theft each year.
The accumulated total of the property stolen from students is £54 million, equating to over 700 incidents a day, according to the Santander survey.
Also, the lender revealed that other frequently stolen items were mobile phones, bicycles, cameras and iPods.
Helen Bierton, head of Santander Current Accounts, said: "Students are unfortunately often seen as an easy target by would-be thieves."
She added that students should protect themselves and ensure that their possessions are covered by an insurance policy.
This announcement comes after the National Union of Students declared that one in three university students are expected to suffer from crime during their studies.
Regal insurance has also added specific warnings to students, instructing them to hide keys and valuables away from windows, while ensuring that any curtains are closed when they are away from their accommodation.
