CFOA calls for urgent review of Building Regulations

After fires involving large buildings under construction in Peckham, Camberwell and Basingstoke the Chief Fire Officers Association (CFOA) is seeking a review of building regulations, amid potential personal injury concerns.
Arsonists were suspected to have caused the fires in the large timber-frame buildings: a type of construction that is perceived as a risk to fire fighters, workers and members of the public.
Basingtoke was the location of the latest fire involving a timber-frame building, which occurred on Friday September 10th at a four storey complex that was under construction.
CFOA vice president and chief fire officer Peter Holland said: "The consequences of this fire would have been much worse." He commended the "tenacity and heroic efforts of fire crews" when dealing with the blaze.
Only last week, the Health and Safety Executive signed an agreement with the Building Control Alliance, in an effort to focus on health and safety standards in the construction industry.
