Sabbaticals 'a good idea for businesses and staff'

An expert has extolled the virtues of taking a sabbatical from the perspective of both businesses and workers.
Katy Nicholson, researcher for the Keep Britain Working campaign, discussed the advantages of career breaks in terms of reinvigorating a company's staff.
She explained that following the financial crisis, sabbaticals were arranged by "an unprecedented high number of employers".
This was organised in terms of paid and unpaid arrangements, introducing an element of flexibility.
"Those far-sighted employers are reaping their reward, as they still have the skilled people they need to challenge the competition and take their business forwards," Ms Nicholson said.
In addition, the expert outlined her view that those who take time out from their job can return with a new, refreshed mindset.
The remarks follow details of research from Santander which showed that 1.2 million Britons have taken a break since the recession started, with four million adults planning future educational or professional respites.
