'Regional variations' in public sector employment throughout the UK

Those seeking legal guidance for work-related issues might have noted there were regional variations in the rate of public sector employment in the UK during the first quarter of this year, according to new figures.
The Office for National Statistics indicated that the rate of people working in education and public administration roles was subject to geographic imbalances.
For instance, the former accounted for 29 per cent of public sector employment in the West Midlands, compared with 18 per cent in London.
Nationally, this profession made up 23 per cent of all jobs in the state-funded section of the economy.
In addition, public administration roles amounted to 20 per cent of the sector, with increases of 8.2 per cent in the north-east and decreases of 6.2 per cent in Wales.
Meanwhile, Andy Bell, deputy chief executive of the Centre for Mental Health, indicated that many employers are unaware of how they can address issues such as depression in the workplace.
