Citizens 'could be more open about personal finance problems'

UK citizens currently undergoing a degree of financial upheaval might want to have a more transparent relationship with their bank, it has been suggested.
Graham Lund, managing director of Callcredit Information Group, gave his opinion on the results of research commissioned by the organisation, which revealed that 69 per cent of consumers hit by monetary worries never address the issue with a financial adviser.
He said: "It's imperative that lenders help customers identify any issues as soon as possible in order to support them in managing their finances."
Mr Lund added that the sheer number of people who never seek the advice of their bank regarding financial difficulties is "particularly concerning".
The research also indicated that 38 per cent of adults surveyed make no attempt to adjust their expenditure following the onset of financial problems.
Elsewhere, Rhiannon Davies, director of ShelterOffshore.com, recently said that many UK citizens are being put off by the country's culture of "living to work to pay off the credit card, mortgage or debt".
