Employee's accident leads to prosecution

Two company directors have been prosecuted after a worker suffered an accident involving a hydraulic press.
The unnamed 57-year-old employee had the ends of two fingers severed at Lupton Fabrications, following a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigation.
And as a consequence, two former directors at the firm, Dennis Brunt and Peter Critchard, were found guilty of breaching regulation 11(1) of the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998.
Following the Leeds magistrates hearing, the two representatives were fined £2,001, plus £250 in costs.
Angus Robbins, HSE inspector, described the episode as "unacceptable".
He went on to add: "This employee lost his fingertips but he could have lost most of his hand and suffered severe injury."
Mr Robbins added that it is important to prevent access to dangerous parts by having operational guards in place.
Meanwhile, the HSE has also prosecuted Robert Fordham £8,000 for falsely claiming to be a registered gas engineer.
