UK citizens 'more confident in spending habits this year'

Britons are more likely to part with their cash for goods and services this year compared with the last 12 months, it has been suggested.
Richard Dodd, head of media at the British Retail Consortium, suggested there has been an upward trend in terms of people's willingness to spend money.
He said: "People are more willing and able to spend than they were last year, although there is still a lot of nervousness around."
Mr Dodd added that although people have been taking on board the spending cuts outlined by the government, consumers are nevertheless "more confident" than this time last year.
It remains to be seen how the planned tax rises and public sector job cuts will affect the overall economy, not to mention people's personal debt levels.
According to the Confederation of British Industry, retail purchases went up in July compared with the same month last year.
