Employers 'should have greater mental health awareness'

Those looking for an employment discrimination claim solicitor might be interested to learn that Friends Provident and Mind have issued instructions to businesses with regards to helping them understand mental health issues.

The guide is geared towards informing firms of how they can bring about a positive working environment for staff.

Declan White, group protection marketing manager at Friends Provident, stated: "Many employers are still in the dark about how best to support staff to help them either remain in or return to work following any mental health problems."

He went on to describe the newly available information as a "must-have" for businesses.

In addition, the provider observes that 29 per cent of its group income protection claims relate to mental health problems.

Meanwhile, a recent survey commissioned by Orange showed that 53 per cent of university leavers expect to take advantage of flexible working opportunities in their first job.
