Government planning retirement age changes

Businesses looking at their tax planning procedures might already be aware of the government's plans to end the Default Retirement Age (DRA).
This will see an end to current arrangements, which enable employers to make staff retire at 65 regardless of their condition.
The measures are being introduced in accordance with the UK's rising life expectancy and general health levels.
Furthermore, the Conservative and Liberal Democrat administration is conducting a review into whether the state pension age should increase to 66, while re-establishing the link between earnings and retirees' basic entitlements is another priority.
Edward Davey, employment relations minister, said: "We are committed to ensuring employers are given help and support in adapting to the change in regulations."
He added that people should not be stopped from working "just because they have reached a particular age" - an approach he described as "discrimination".
Recently, Matthew Freeman, head of young people and communities at Working Links, said that joblessness can contribute towards depression and ill-health.
