Commercial property: EIB selects consortium for north-west regeneration

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has chosen a consortium headed by Manchester City Council and the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities to deliver a series of major redevelopment projects in the region.
In news that may have caught the attention of commercial property observers, the EIB will earmark as much as £300 million for schemes to be carried out over the next ten years.
The North West Evergreen Fund will seek to revitalise the area's industrial and commercial infrastructure using both public and private money.
It is based on the premise of sustainability and is intended to create job opportunities for this part of the country.
Commenting on the plans, Simon Brooks, EIB vice-president responsible for the United Kingdom, outlined its priorities.
He said the drive will "promote sustainable employment, rejuvenate industrial areas and create new opportunities for communities across the region".
The news comes after Andrew Burrell, partner in research at King Sturge, asserted that central London is still the most attractive destination for UK real estate investors.
