NLA subject of consumer fraud on Gumtree

Those seeking individual services from a solicitor may have noted news that the National Landlords Association (NLA) has been contacted by a range of defrauded individuals.
The NLA claims it has uncovered a scam perpetrated on Gumtree, which sees potential tenants requested to send money to bogus landlords in advance of supposedly obtaining UK rental accommodation.
When the money has been transferred, the fraudsters become impossible to contact, leaving would-be buyers duped.
In addition, the ruse adopts the logo of the NLA in its attempt to con members of the public.
Richard Price, director of operations at the landlord association, stated: "Tenants, no matter where they are from, should not send payment to advertisers before they are certain that the advertiser is genuine."
Meanwhile, a recent report by NFU Mutual indicated that crime levels increased in rural parts of the UK between January and June 2010, if a majority of the organisation's members are to be believed.
