Earnings rise but debt increases, report suggests

Anyone seeking individual services for financial matters might have noted the findings of one recent consumer survey.
Alliance Trust's UK Financial Reality Index rose from 77.3 to 77.7 in the second quarter of 2010, suggesting that people may have marginally more cash in their wallets than earlier in the year.
Even so, the study revealed that many living costs have risen during this period.
Shona Dobbie, head of the group's research centre, stated that the improvement in the second quarter was largely on the back of rising house prices and earnings.
However, she went on to assert: "The biggest headwind facing the UK consumer at the moment is the impact of the austerity measures to rein in the Budget deficit."
The figures also indicate that consumer spending may be weak in the months ahead.
Recently, Justin Sargent, group managing director at Nielsen's UK & Ireland operations, said that many consumers are beginning to feel more worried about money and debt matters.
