Summer months 'increase risk of theft'

Those looking to take out insurance this year might have noted one organisation's suggestion that the summer months bring fresh security risks to homeowners.
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has pointed out that doors and windows left open are often targeted by opportunistic thieves.
Also, those heading off on holiday should ensure they make precautions to bolster the security of their home while it is unoccupied.
The organisation notes there were 78,000 domestic burglary claims for insurers to deal with last summer, highlighting the scale of the problem.
Nick Starling, director of general insurance and health for the ABI, stated: "Being aware of the risks and taking a few simple precautions will ensure that you do not become a victim of summer thieves."
This follows news that 70 per cent of NFU Mutual's agents reported that rural crime increased between January and June 2010 when compared with the same period in the previous year.
