West Midlands 'dominates uninsured driving list'

About half of the worst offending postcodes for uninsured driving are in the West Midlands, it has been revealed.
In a national poll by the Motor Insurers' Bureau (MIB), three of the top five locations for unauthorised car ownership were in this area.
These included Small Heath, Saltley and Handsworth in Birmingham, although the research showed the volume of uninsured drivers has fallen in recent years.
Topping the poll was Barkerend in Bradford, which has stayed number one for the last 13 years.
Even so, Ashton West, chief executive of MIB, said there has been some progress with regards to tackling the issue of people making journeys without insurance.
He said: "The level of seizures and criminal convictions demonstrates that uninsured drivers are consistently being caught and removed from the road. But more drivers need to buy a policy to cover them on the road."
The organisation claims that one in ten 18-34 year olds are unaware that car insurance is a legal necessity.
