New OFT consumer measures could protect individuals

Anyone seeking individual services for legal matters might be interested to learn that the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has launched a consultation regarding online consumer protection.
It proposes three areas in which purchasers can be handed greater rights alongside wider improvements in economic growth and competition.
First, the OFT has stressed the importance of enhancing the effectiveness of industry guidance and solutions.
The body also recommended developing a more sophisticated enforcement strategy, as well as empowering consumers with explanations of how to solve problems online.
Noah Curthoys, director of strategy at the group, said the strategy "will help drive competition and growth by using more focused methods to protect consumers and build trust".
He went on to add: "This will ensure the UK is one of the global leaders in online enforcement."
The OFT recently reported that might be an increase in rogue doorstep trading over the summer months.
