Budget 'making life harder for those on low incomes'

Personal insolvency might become more commonplace in the UK, as many people on low incomes continue to have problems generating sufficient income to meet basic living requirements.
New research published by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation has outlined how those with less capital often face a far higher inflation rate than that detailed in the Consumer Prices Index.
The study showed that the gap between the minimum wage and the sums needed to maintain household budgets has become greater.
Specifically, a single person must now earn at least £14,400 per year to reach the standard requirement, while a couple with two children must generate £29,200.
Donald Hirsch, who authored the report and is head of income studies at the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University, stated: "This new research underlines how people living close to the minimum income standard can end up not having enough if economic trends start going against them."
Recently, Steven Law, president of R3, suggested there are almost a million people in the UK struggling with debt at present.
