Proportion of married couples in UK 'set to fall'

The proportion of adults in the UK who are married will decline over the next quarter-century.
This is according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which predicted that between 2008 and 2033, the numbers of both married and never-married adults will rise, but the latter will do so by a greater extent.
It claimed that by 2033, the proportion of people who are wed to a partner will be 42 per cent, which is down from the 49 per cent recorded two years ago.
Meanwhile, the rate of divorce is expected to remain unchanged, with around eight per cent of males anticipated to have gone through such a legal separation and ten per cent of females.
However, the number of individuals between the ages of 35 and 44 who are divorced will halve within this timeframe, the ONS stated.
There has been speculation over recent months that some people are deferring getting a divorce until after economic circumstances improve because of the money they may lose if they divided their assets currently.
