Asset management industry 'preparing for wave of mergers and acquisitions'

The asset management industry is preparing to experience a wave of international merger and acquisition activity in Europe, it has been claimed.
According to a poll of industry operators conducted by Kneip, 90 per cent of respondents believed there would be an increase in such activity over the coming 12 months, Global Pensions reports.
In addition, 45 per cent revealed they have cross-border expansion plans in place.
The firm - which has offices in Luxembourg and London - also found that 42 per cent are considering international expansion into Latin America, Europe and Asia due to an anticipated increase in investor interest.
Chief executive officer Bob Kneip remarked: "Having been through one of the worst financial crises in recent history, it is encouraging to see that the European asset management industry is looking ahead more confidently to the next 12 months."
He added that asset managers are expected to grow via acquisitions.
