Pleural plaques victims 'may still be compensated'

People who have the asbestos-related condition pleural plaques may still receive compensation, it has been suggested.
New justice minister Jonathan Djanogly, who assumed his role following last month's general election, said that under current understanding of the condition, the government does not believe damages should be awarded.
However, he added: "Of course, if the situation were to change, we would look at it again."
The politician went on to say that if medical evidence emerges that suggests the disease is "an actionable cause" and counts as compensatable damage, it will be open to claimants to pursue money.
His comments were given in response to comments made in the House of Commons by Jarrow Labour MP Stephen Hepburn.
He believes that sufferers should receive money.
Pleural plaques is a form of scarring of the outer lining of the lungs and is an indication of previous exposure to asbestos.
Other conditions associated with the hazardous insulating material include mesothelioma and asbestosis.
