Independent travellers 'may not be fully insured'

An insurance warning has been issued to UK consumers who plan to travel to the Caribbean this summer independently of a package tour.
Such people whose flights are cancelled, for example, may find they are unable to claim for subsequent connections, M&S Money noted.
It made its comments after the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advised holidaymakers to follow weather updates and travel advice when planning journeys to the area between this month and November, which is hurricane season.
Head of general insurance at the firm Andrew Ferguson remarked: "Travellers booking flights independently can often find themselves stranded and out of pocket and should make sure they have adequate insurance."
Another issue that consumers heading abroad should bear in mind is the volcanic eruption in Iceland, which has the potential to ground flights in various locations around Europe and thus cause significant disruption to people planning to head off on vacation.
