Commercial property rents 'rise'

New research has revealed that commercial property rent prices were up in May.

The latest Buy-to-let Index from LSL Property Services showed that costs for commercial tenants increased by 0.5 per cent month-on-month, contributing to a 2.7 per cent rise over the past year.

It is the fourth successive month that rents have increased and the average tenant is now paying £667 per month to rent commercial property, £21 short of an all-time high.

Breaking the trend however, the north-east and north-west of England both experienced drops in rent prices.

Commenting on the findings, David Brown, commercial director of LSL Property Services, said: "The fundamentals of sound property investment - tenant demand, yield and rental income - are in place for the ... recovery to continue apace. But we need to wait for the Budget."

LSL is the parent property network of Your Move and Reeds Rains and also provides its surveying services to mortgage lenders under the e.surv, Chancellors Associates and Barnwoods brands.
