Cameron makes civil partnership pledge

During an event at Downing Street, the prime minister made a pledge concerning civil partnerships.
Speaking to members of the gay community, David Cameron said his government is to allow civil partnerships to be carried out in places of worship if possible.
The politician, who assumed his current role following the closely fought general election last month - said the coalition administration is committed to tackling discrimination against homosexual people.
With his deputy Nick Clegg standing next to him, he remarked: "We shouldn't have this legalistic nonsense getting in the way of people who want to celebrate their civil partnership in churches."
However, he qualified this by adding that organisations that do not want to perform such ceremonies also have rights.
He went on to claim that issues such as the bullying of gay people at school and in the workplace is not something the law can tackle, but rather requires a change of culture in the UK.
