Insurance policies 'may be out-of-date concerning family structure'

Certain forms of insurance may be out-of-date in terms of how they classify family relationships, a research firm has claimed.
According to Defaqto, 28 per cent of travel insurance policies do not cover children if they live with an ex-partner.
For this reason, parents should ensure they check the details of their policies before heading off with youngsters on holiday.
Defaqto's Brian Brown said: "If you take children on holiday with you and they normally live with an ex-partner they might not be covered."
Insurance providers tend to only consider them to be family if they reside permanently at the address of the person taking them on vacation, he added.
Those who are particularly at risk of lacking insurance include couples who are not married and those who have offspring from a previous relationship.
People planning on travelling abroad may be more reliant than usual on insurance because of the volcano in Iceland, which is intermittently affecting flights across many parts of Europe.
