Divorcees 'can struggle financially'

There are many issues to deal with when people get divorced and one of the most difficult can be finances, it has been noted.
In an interview with Rutgers Today, Deborah Carr, a professor in the Department of Sociology and the Institute for Health, Care Policy and Aging Research, said women are particularly at risk of suffering money troubles after a marital breakdown.
She pointed out that a considerable number of females take time off work in order to look after their families and consequently they often earn less than their male counterparts over time.
Ms Carr added that while younger couples tend to split due to the stresses of family life or infidelity, older people are more likely to part ways because they realise they are unfulfilled.
The expert remarked: "People need to understand that those who divorce believe theyll be happier on their own or with a new partner."
Research published recently by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks indicated that the risk of divorce may have risen as a result of the recession, with more than one million households arguing more due to financial problems.
