Parents 'committing insurance fraud on behalf of children'

Many parents in the UK commit insurance fraud in order to save their children money, it has been claimed.
According to research conducted by the Co-operative Insurance, more than 40 per cent of mothers and fathers polled admitted to falsifying motor cover for this purpose.
The tactic is known as fronting and it involves parents registering themselves as the main driver of a vehicle that is in fact predominantly driven by their sons or daughters.
In addition, it was discovered that 61 per cent of those who had committed such illegal activity would do so again in future.
Tim Franklin, chief operating officer at the Co-operative Financial Services, said: "The view that motor insurance fronting is harmless and doesn't hurt anyone could not be further from the truth."
Meanwhile, research recently published by the Motor Insurers' Bureau suggested that 70 per cent of UK drivers do not understand the meaning of the term fronting.
