Divorce risks 'may have risen due to recession'

The risk of people getting divorced may have risen as a result of the ongoing economic problems being faced by the UK and its citizens.
This is according to research conducted by Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, which suggested that the financial difficulties caused by the recession are having a disruptive impact on family relationships.
It was claimed that more than one million households are arguing more due to such concerns, while nearly double this number say they are under severe strain on a daily basis as a result of budgeting issues.
Professor Kevin Durkin of the University of Strathclyde's Department of Psychology commented: "Economic stress has substantial effects on families. It impacts on the parents, causing irritability, marital discord and depression."
Meanwhile, Steve Reid, retail director at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks - which both have roots tracing back to the 19th century - added that there is "no question" that financial worries can cause problems among family members.
