Calls made for reduction in business red tape

There needs to be a reduction in the amount of red tape faced by firms operating in the UK.
This is the message from the British Chambers of Commerce's director-general David Frost, who said that the new Conservative/Liberal Democrat administration should show its commitment to enterprise and reduce bureaucracy.
His comments follow the release of research from a team based at the London and Manchester Business Schools, which revealed that the cost of such burdens on companies at present is around £88.3 billion.
This is said to be a rise of £11 billion over last year.
Mr Frost remarked: "The cost of dealing and complying with new laws and regulations over the last 12 years has been far too high."
We are still in a critical time for the economy and firms serve to drive the recovery and create jobs, he added.
His appeal was made before the Queen's speech today (May 25th), which has been devised by the government formed as a coalition in the wake of the general election on May 6th.
