Some firms 'need to do more to protect safety of workers'

While most construction companies are meeting standards for protecting the wellbeing of their workers, there remain some that are not.
This was the message from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which pointed out that those which fail to conform to laws in this way are letting the whole of the industry down.
It made its remarks following the inspection of a number of sites in Lincolnshire.
Over the course of two days, nine businesses were analysed and two-thirds failed the observations, while one company is still under investigation with a view to being prosecuted.
Richard Lockwood from the HSE - which exists to protect people from the risks that arise as a result of workplace activities - said some enterprises are putting employees' lives at risk.
He added: "[The] HSE will not tolerate poor health and safety standards on construction sites and we will continue to make unannounced visits and take enforcement action when necessary, until the message gets across."
