Older people at risk of insolvency 'failing to go online for help'

Many older individuals who are at risk of insolvency or have general debt problems are not using online help services, it has been claimed.
According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), only three per cent of those who used its internet counselling tool last year were aged 60 and over.
It responded to the figure by warning that this age demographic could be missing out on a simple and anonymous way of dealing with their issues.
Head of e-services at the CCCS Paula Searle remarked: "Although people should seek help in the medium where they are most comfortable, I am concerned that older people should not miss out on any of our services."
She added that the Debt Remedy tool has the advantage of being there around the clock and there is also telephone support available between 08:00 and 20:00 BST.
Recently, Scottish Widows said people are adopting a so-called "ostrich mentality" when it comes to debt and are not seeking to address the problem.
