Awareness of hearing loss among armed forces 'is rising'

Awareness of the problem of hearing loss among the armed forces who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan is increasing, it has been suggested.
Writing in Defence Management, Professor Haggard - who has been an adviser to Deafness Research UK for over 20 years and is now an honorary vice president - said politicians and the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have recognised the need to engage external expertise to help.
There are now attempts being made to help specify the nature and scale of the issue, he revealed.
He went on to note that Deafness Research UK - which was established as a registered charity in 1985 by Jack Ashely, who is profoundly deaf - is involved in the discussions with the MoD concerning the present position.
It is also suggesting the next steps that should be taken to help deal with the problem, Professor Haggard went on to state.
