Consumers predict tax hikes

Many consumers believe there will be tax rises in the near future, new research suggests.
According to a survey conducted by Unbiased.co.uk, 31 per cent of people predict there will substantial increases in levies once a new government starts work.
In addition, nearly nine in ten (86 per cent) revealed they have done nothing to reduce their tax burden.
According to the organisation - which is the consumer facing brand of IFA Promotion - Britons will waste a total of £9 billion in unnecessary tax payments over the course of this year.
Unbiased.co.uk chief executive Karen Barrett advised people to take steps to reduce their tax burdens.
She added: "Seeking independent financial advice is the first step to take tax action - an independent financial adviser can assess your entire financial position and ensure you are being as tax efficient as possible."
A few simple steps can sometimes make a significant difference, she noted.
