Brown: Labour has extended gay rights

The prime minister has defended the record of the Labour government concerning gay rights.
In an interview with PinkNews.co.uk, he said that over the last 13 years, the administration has faced down opposition to changes such as bringing down the gay age of consent.
Also, it has legalised gay adoption, introduced lesbian fertility rights and abolished Section 28, he noted.
Meanwhile, the party's manifesto contains provisions to take further action on homophobic bullying and to increase protection for people from incitement to homophobic hate.
However, Mr Brown would not commit to changing the law to give gay couples full marriage rights.
Last month, foreign secretary David Miliband claimed that if the party remained in power following the general election, it would build on its development of equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and expand this abroad.
The issue of gay rights is likely to have an impact on the strategies of some voters as they head to the polls later today (May 6th).
